Final Project ETHS/125
The history of diversity in the United States has helped me to better understand more in depth of the difference in race, ethnic and cultural rituals. This course has been very interesting in which I have learned about many different things that I did not know that exist. This course has help me to learn to relate to others in ways that I have not in the past because I been exposed to how people lived years ago which still exit to day. For the past 9 weeks, I learned many things about my own racial, ethnic, and cultural history that I had no clue about. I’m excited to know about my racial background. African Americans family today have many notable strength in economic, social, and political standing throughout the United States of America. In 2009, about 28 percent of African Americans earn more than the median income of white non-Hispanic. (Schafer, 2012) African American are better off today than they were years ago. Blacks experience less significant improvement with respect to their deprivation to where all economic indicator. In employment the percentage of African American are in professional and management leadership jobs rose from 4 percent in 1949 to 11 percent in 2009. Politically, the African American are still not receive on equal share even though there is a black president in office. I think it all boils down to how many people were influence by their parents and ancestors regarding racism. Racism still exist today but not as much as it was years ago. African American have made many contribution in economic, social, and political standing through the years. (Schafer, 2012) Throughout most of the United States, primary the most dominant race was the white population. The white population was establish in Western culture to the community with a rich ethnic and racial minorities. The United States population is close to 87% of white people when the century started. The other race groups were the black American living in the rural area down south of the United States. At the end of the century, non-Hispanic white’s population was less than 75 percent of the United Stated population. The minority population such as Hispanics as blacks, Asians, and a small group of American Indian population. The transformation of America’s racial and ethnic profile is most visible in certain states and community. (Poland, 1991) Trends in immigration will continue to shape the demographics of the United States. What will the U.S. population look like in the year 2050? Trends in immigration will continue to shape the demographics of the United States especially south of Texas. The United States population will be double is my prediction in 2050. I say that because there have been thousands of minor immigrates that were bus and even packed on back on trucks crossing the Mexico border into the United States without their parents. The dramatic increase of accompanied children traveling to the United States from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala is primarily due to poverty and violence in their home countries, according to US Department of Homeland Security documents. Violence from gang and drug trafficking have risen at the highest in the world. (2014, Krogstad) Diversity is important in today world. Diversity refers to human qualities that are different from other group in which we do not belong; however, it is manifested in other individual groups. Diversity is valued because enhance the intellectual emotional, economic, moral and spiritual life of the community. Achieving more diverse learning environment is seen as a way to improve education for all students while promotion respect for each of us as individuals. (Luther, 2015) How can we foster a climate of acceptance and cultural pluralism in the United States? In the United States we can foster a climate of...
